Taking Time For Yourself
Aug 01, 2022If there's one thing I know about working, it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of work, forgetting that you need to take time for yourself. If you're anything like me, you might feel like you just don't have the time for it. The fact is, taking time for yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your career.
When you're feeling burnt out, exhausted from all of the pressure of work and life in general, don't worry! I've got some tips for making sure that self care is part of your everyday routine so you can finally get everything done without feeling completely overwhelmed by life's demands.
How do we make sure we're taking time for ourselves?
1) Take a break from work every hour or two. If your job requires you to be constantly looking at your phone or computer screen, taking breaks will help prevent eye strain and fatigue that could affect your performance later on. It's also just good practice to give your eyes a rest—they deserve it!
2) Schedule time off into your calendar so that it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. It's easy to let things slip through the cracks when they're not top priority, but if they're already on your calendar then they'll be much easier to remember when they come up!
3) Don’t overthink it. The best way to take time for yourself is to do what makes you smile. This could be as simple as spending time with a loved one, taking a hot bath, sipping your favorite tea, binging on your favorite show, working out, walking your dog– anything that makes you feel good. It's easier than you think!
Pretty much anything that brings you joy or calms you down works as self care. The entire point of taking time for yourself is to reset your mind and body from the daily things that cause stress, worry, and anxiety.
Everybody needs a break from time to time, scheduled or not. Whether you're an entrepreneur, freelancer, or someone who works for a company that has no flexibility in the scheduling of your days off, taking time out for self-care is important. Taking time for yourself doesn't have to be expensive or complicated! It can be as small as taking a shower and reading that book you've been meaning to get around to, as long as you feel relaxed and fulfilled after doing it!
