How to Practice Mindfulness
Aug 15, 2022For decades, I've been guilty of rushing through life without taking in the beauty around me. It's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of work and forgetting to take a moment to be mindful and present is normal. If you're anything like me, you might feel like you just don't have the time for it, but the truth is–you do!
Fortunately, all the chaos in the past few years taught me to look around and absorb the beauty around me and be mindful of myself. Not everyone is lucky enough to learn that over time, but practicing mindfulness is still super beneficial and easier than you think!
Here's how to practice mindfulness:
1) Pay attention
It's hard to slow down and notice things in a busy world. Try to take the time to experience your environment with all of your senses — touch, sound, sight, smell and taste. For example, when you eat a favorite food, take the time to smell, taste and truly enjoy it–you deserve it!
2) Live in the moment
Try to bring an open and accepting attention to everything you do. Find joy in simple pleasures like eating, breathing, talking, and just experiencing life!
3) Accept yourself
Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend. Self love and kindness is the most important step of it all–here are some tips.
4) Focus on your breathing
Try to sit down, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your body. Sitting and breathing for even just a minute can help, and it's simple!
The more you practice these easy mindfulness exercises, the less stress and anxiety you'll feel. I've noticed that since being more mindful, I longer live in fear, doubt, or hesitation. I dive into life and live fully. I experience intensely so I don't forget.
How are you living?
